Margaret J. Bly

REVERE, Mass. – Mrs. Margaret J. (Corrigan) Bly, 110, of Lawson Avenue, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at her home. She was the wife of the late Beldon G. Bly Sr.

Born in Donegal, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Richard C. and Matilda (Ray) Corrigan. She came to the United States at the age of 6 and lived in Revere for most of her life.

In 1912, she was named Miss Revere Beach. A believer in civic duty, during World War I, she made bandages for the American Red Cross.

Her 65 years of devotion to the organization was so great that the Red Cross created the Margaret J. Bly Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service. She was named Citizen of the Year by Bnai Brith in Revere.

She was a volunteer for the Visiting Nurses Association in Revere. She was a member of the Revere Womens Club, an honorary member of the Dartmouth College Womens Club and a member and past eight-year president of the Revere PTA. She was a member of the State Republican Committee, along with her son, Beldon Bly Jr.

She leaves two sons, Dr. Harold W. Bly of Harwich, and Beldon G. Bly Jr. of Wakefield; five grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was also the mother of the late Ernest R. Bly. She was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, in the Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home, 549 Lincoln Ave., Saugus, Mass. Interment will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, West Peabody.
