Probably county Waterford’s oldest citizen, Marcella Fitzgerald, of Shanbally, Leamybrien, passed peacefully away at the local Drumhills Nursing Home on Tuesday of last week.
Marcella was in her 106th year and was widely known and hugely popular in Dungarvan and all of the surrounding areas. She was, in the truest sense, a legendary figure who will be greatly missed by her surviving relatives and countless friends.
The removal of Marcella’s remains took place from the Kiely Funeral Home to Kilrossanty Parish Church last Wednesday evening and following Requiem Mass on Thursday she was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery in the presence of a huge concourse.
